Onsite Environmental’s Stewardship

Onsite Environmental helps municipalities be good stewards of the sewer treatment infrastructure. Onsite’s processes also reduce the amount of solid waste added to landfills.

Onsite’s processes filter and treat non-hazardous liquid wastes. What happens to the treated liquid waste? There are three primary outcomes:

All grease waste is filtered and dewatered and sold as a clean-burning fuel. Onsite produces over 500,000 gallons of renewable fuel every year from grease waste.

By-products of the treatment process are reused in agriculture as a beneficial soil amendment, approved by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. Onsite produces 48 tons of the soil amendment every day. That’s 12,000 tons of byproduct per year that would otherwise be landfilled.

The treated and filtered water is returned into the municipal wastewater treatment system. Onsite annually processes 40 million gallons of water collected from grease traps, removing the grease and protecting municipal wastewater treatment plants in several states. Untreated and unfiltered fats, oils and grease (FOG) from restaurant operations seriously impact municipal wastewater treatment plant operations, costing millions of dollars every year in additional maintenance, repairs, and reduced treatment effectiveness.
